Web Browser

Hey all. Just curious as to what web browser you like the best. I just recently switched to Opera and find it much better than Internet Explorer. Also I use Safari on the office computer cause its fast.

Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are good, too.

trashcanman September 8th, 2009 15:43

I use Opera. Have been using it for about a year now.

opera and chrome are good... But what makes switching away from firefox so tough is the addons capability!!

cmcwmod September 8th, 2009 17:47

Definitely Firefox. Can't be beat, thanks to all those add-ons. (I will never understand how people can live without adblock. ;))

Which of the add-ons do you recommend?

Adblock Plus is a must-have:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/

I also recommend the following:

Image Zoom (images zoom in/out if you right-click on any image and keep the right mouse button pressed while scrolling the mouse wheel)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/139/

DownThemAll (download manager that can do things like download all images on the page automatically)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201/

Zoom Toolbar (adds page zoom buttons to the toolbar, including a button to go directly back to normal size)
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6118/

tragmich August 5th, 2010 15:53

Can adblock stop the livejasmin pop ups from the image sites? That one seems pretty resilient.

Did not know that, but it seems to be mostly targeted for heavy users of sites like Facebook, Myspace, etc, so I don't think it would bring a lot of benefits for me.

I haven't gotten it to stop the actual popup window yet, but I have made it so that the window is empty. Another way to stop this is to modify the cookie expiration date. These image sites install a cookie that makes the popup window appear once every 24 hours (or something like that). If you set the "has seen popup window" cookie to expire after 1000 years or something, the popup is gone until you delete your cookies. I have done this with Imagebam, but it's a bit tricky to figure out which cookie to modify, so I can't really recommend this method to everyone.

The best way to stop it should have been the built-in popup blocker, but livejasmin seems to get around it.

I would suggest using noscript (firefox addon) to block popups. I havent seen a single popup since i installed it. But you need at least some understanding of javascripts (not programming). Post here if you need help understanding it.
